MATTHEW 22:37-38

Jesus said, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself.”

He also said, “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”

We are a church that REACHES intentionally into the local and global community, developing authentic relationships. // Luke 15; Romans 12:9-18

We are a church that LOVES people wherever they are, especially in their brokenness and messiness, but loves them too much to let them stay there. // Matthew 25:35-40; John 4:4-42

We are a church that IMITATES Jesus, seeking real life change through obedience, being transformed by the Holy Spirit, and following Christ’s example. // Ephesians 5:1-2; Galatians 5:22-23

We are a church that DUPLICATES this process through relational ministry,  making disciples who make disciples. This is the personal responsibility of everyone who follows Jesus. // Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Timothy 2:2

At Discover, we don't have an official "creed," but these are our core beliefs:

There is one God, Creator of heaven and earth, who exists eternally in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. // Genesis 1:1, 26; Matthew 3:16-17; 28:19-20; John 1:1, 14; 10:30-33; 14:9; Acts 7:55

The Bible is inspired and given to us directly by God. It has no fault. It should not be added to or taken away from. // 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Revelation 22:18-19)

All have sinned and deserve eternal separation from God. It is impossible for anyone to restore their relationship with God by their own good works. // Romans 3:23-24; James 2:10

Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God who led a sinless life, was crucified, and was raised to life. His sacrifice allows us to be seen by God as holy and without sin. // John 3:16; Romans 8:34-39

The forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit are granted by God's grace through faith in Jesus. That faith is obediently lived out through belief, confession, repentance, baptism, and following Jesus. // Ephesians 2:8-10; Romans 10:9; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:1-4; Matthew 4:19

The Church exists to take the good news of Jesus to all people in every nation; to serve the world; to encourage and strengthen other believers. // Matthew 28:19-20; Ephesians 4:11-13, 1 Peter 4:10-11)

Believers should worship God and love Him with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. Christians are to grow in faith and practice as empowered by the Holy Spirit. // John 4:23; Mark 12:30-31; Galatians 5:22-23

Jesus will visibly return without warning to judge all people. Non-believers will spend eternity separated from God, and faithful believers will spend eternity with God. // Revelation 20:11-21:8; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-18

Note: We do not wish to post individual documents regarding other specific “issues;” rather,  we rely on the truth of the God’s Word and the power of the Holy Spirit to address every area of our lives. We are happy to sit down and discuss our understanding of how the Bible applies to any specific topic, and believe those conversations happen best in a relational context. If you wish to discuss something not covered in this belief statement, please feel free to contact any of the Elders or the Lead Minister.

GRACE // No one is beyond the reach of God’s grace. Grace is the outflowing of God’s unconditional love and mercy, is offered to everyone, and must be accepted individually // Romans 3:23-24; Ephesians 2:8

TRUTH // Truth is not subjective. The source of truth is the Bible, the life of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. We strive to speak the truth in love // 2 Timothy 3:16-17; John 17:17; Ephesians 4:15

PRAYER // We believe things of lasting value are accomplished because they are bathed in prayer. Prayer is foundational to our relationship with God. Through personal and corporate prayer, we offer praise, seek God's will, ask for wisdom, and express our concerns. God moves in response to our united and personal prayer // Philippians 4:6-7; 1 Thessalonians 5:17; Romans 8:25

TRANSFORMATION // When we intentionally place ourselves where we can be changed, the Holy Spirit begins to transform our hearts and lives. Beyond forgiveness, our negative cycles of behavior and sin are changed by God // 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Galatians 5:22-23; 2 Peter 1:3-8; 2 Corinthians 5:17

WORSHIP // Worship is the expression of a relationship with God, personally and corporately, as we respond to God’s grace in faith, love, and obedience // Romans 12:1-2; Psalm 95:1-6, Colossians 3:16

RELATIONSHIPS // Ministry is about people, not programs. We intentionally seek authentic relationships with God and people. We desire to make disciples who make disciples // 1 John 3:16; 4:7-8; Matthew 4:19; 28:19-20

UNITY // Jesus prayed for those who believe in him to be one, as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one. May people know God is real by the way we love each other and are united in Christ // John 17:20-21; 1 Corinthians 12:12-26

SERVICE // God provides gifts and resources to every person. As followers of Jesus, we intentionally and prayerfully offer them to do life-changing ministry. We look for ways to contribute, rather than consume // 1 Peter 4:10; Ephesians 4:11-13; Mark 10:45

GENEROSITY // Our time, energy, talents, and money are gifts from God, and are meant to be shared. We strive for the kind of generosity that only makes sense in light of God's grace // 2 Corinthians 9:7

EXCELLENCE // We are not perfect, but the Bible calls us to be dedicated to excellence. Because we are serving God in all we say and do, excellence is always the goal // Colossians 3:17, 23-24

RELEVANCE // The good news of Jesus must creatively reach today's culture without compromising the timeless message // 1 Corinthians 9:19-23; John 3:16-17
